This morning I did some volunteering with CGT Kayaks to clean up the insane amount of hurricane Irma debris in the upper part of the imperial river. So sad to see our beautiful river like this.
A trailer park on the river was destroyed by the hurricane and tons of debris, mostly styrofoam insulation, ended up all over the place. In some parts it was clogging it like a dam. It’s in the trees, tangled in vines, and in places you can’t even get to. Most of this area of the river is inaccessible by land so we had to go down river and collect as much as we could, then fight the strong current back to where we started to unload it all.
Nadia and I filled our kayak like this 4 times with everything from foam, a gas can, parts of waterlogged Rubbermaid storage sheds, a garden gnome, and plenty of spiders! Hopefully this counts towards my Chattajack training!
